The United States Geological Survey reported an earthquake on Tuesday afternoon in Virginia. The center of the 3.0-magnitude earthquake was about 55.6 miles west of Richmond, Virginia, according to the USGS . The temblor happened at 1:08 p.m. ET Tuesday about 5.5 miles south of the town of Dillwyn, Virginia, data from the agency shows. The Richter scale shows a 3.0-magnitude earthquake is often felt by people, but very rarely causes damage. Shaking of indoor objects can be noticeable. A WRAL News viewer about 34 miles from the center of the earthquake reported feeling it.
