It's no Hollywood, but you might be surprised to find that several cinematic gems were shot in Colorado.
Colorado isn't exactly the most popular spot for filmmaking, but the beautiful scenery has been featured in several classic films throughout the years. Here are our favorites:
The Gold Rush (1925)

This Charlie Chaplin classic is a must-see for lovers of vintage comedy. The Little Tramp wrote, directed, and starred in this one. He plays a gold digger who falls in love during an adventure to the Alaskan wilderness. This silent film received a 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Sleeper (1973)

Woody Allen and Diane Keaton star in this science fiction classic about a store owner brought to the future to overthrow the government. This one also received a 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Badlands (1973)

In the same year, this based-on-a-true-story gem was shot in various areas of Colorado. Starring Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek, this film follows a young teen who is charmed by a rebellious older boy. The pair murders the girl's family and anyone else who gets in their way as they adventure towards the Badlands of Montana. Roger Ebert gave it 4/4 stars.
Thelma & Louise (1991)

You won't find a more charming tale about friendship than this classic, which stars Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis. After Thelma is nearly raped at the beginning of a road trip, Louise kills her attacker, and the two find themselves on the run. This was filmed in Gateway and Bedrock.
The Hateful Eight (2015)

Shot in Telluride, Tarantino's 8th film follows bounty hunters attempting to survive a blizzard. The all-star cast features Samuel Jackson, Michael Madsen, Kurt Russell, Channing Tatum, Tim Roth, and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
