Home and decor site, Apartment Therapy, says Arvada is the place to be.

Hello, Arvada! Thanks to its charming blend of mining history and modern amenities, this suburb is gaining national attention. ApartmentTherapy.com recently dropped its list of the most-happening suburbs in the nation, and our state claimed one of the spots on the list.

"The quest for more space doesn't have to mean sacrifice elsewhere," says Apartment Therapy. "Our Coolest Suburbs in the U.S. project pinpoints the top 19 burbs bursting with cultural hotspots."

Arvada hit the list, in part, due to its bustling art and entertainment scene. The Arvada Center for Arts is renowned far and wide for its visual art displays, stage productions, Colorado Ballet events, and more. But, what also grabbed the project's attention was the cities skillful intersection of its past with modern-day culture.

In Olde Town, a variety of modern eats, drinks, and specialty shops abut historical treasures, such as the Arvada Flour Mill, which was built in 1925. The area is home to events throughout the year, a farmers market, the St. Patrick’s Day Festival, and First Friday Art Walks. On warm summer days, a splash pad in the square fills with laughing kids, escaping the heat," the report says

Arvada joined the likes of Decatur, Ga.; Pasadena, Calif.; Beaverton, Ore.; Round Rock, Texas; and Maplewood, N.J., to name just a few other cities on the list.

How did the company define "cool"? You can check out the full methodology, but here it is in a nutshell:

"We ultimately assessed suburbs for stand-out cultural options like diverse dining options, awesome coffee shops, walkable areas, outdoor recreation, unique boutiques, family-friendly activities, a sense of community, and a lively arts scene. Overall, we were looking for suburbs in which it didn’t feel like you’d be making a ton of sacrifices by moving out of the city," says Apartment Therapy.
