An early morning larceny in the Butchers Hill neighborhood of Southeast Baltimore was captured on camera, highlighting a troubling trend in the area. A suspect was seen stealing wheels from a blue Mustang, marking the second time the vehicle has been targeted in recent weeks. "I think a lot of what’s been targeting this area is more of an organized crime style," said Arch McKown. The incident unfolded as the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Josue Paz, was caught on surveillance footage pulling into an alley next to the Mustang. Initially acting if he was changing a tire, he was later seen using tools to remove a wheel, spending over 15 minutes, before neighbors spotted him and called 911. "Says there is a male stealing tire male stealing tires off a blue Mustang," reported a witness. Baltimore police arrived on the scene minutes later, prompting the suspect to flee. However, he was quickly apprehended and taken into custody. Community activist Arch McKown expressed the frustration felt by residents. "I think it’s a source of frustration for most people, at the very least," McKown said. Recent data from Baltimore police indicates a 42% increase in larcenies from autos in the Southeast District over a seven-day period compared to the same time last year. While violent crimes are reportedly down across the city, McKown noted that quality-of-life crimes continue to impact residents. "It’s not like a fear like you would have with a violent crime as much as you know, it’s just a frustration," McKown said. "It’s like come on, we should be able to sleep at night and not have to worry about your car that is out there." Baltimore police confirmed that no arrests have been made in the previous theft of the wheels and tires, but the investigation is ongoing.
