The trains will motor back and forth between downtown Baltimore and the northern suburbs.
Visitors have a brand new attraction to see the next time they visit the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore. On Monday, December 6, the museum introduced a brand new model train gallery, sponsored by Bank of America.
The new train gallery is modeled after Baltimore in 1997 and includes a mini Camden Yards, Inner Harbor, and the Pimlico Racetrack. The museum also has two holiday-themed train displays, along with a lineup of holiday programs that run through January 2, 2022.
The custom layout was gifted to the museum by an anonymous donor. The new train gallery was designed by Jeff Springer of Custom Model Railroads of Baltimore, the architect of the museum’s original HO scale layout of the Baltimore railroad system. HO scale was created in the 1950s as an alternative to the large O scale trains and is the most popular type of model train in the world.
The highlight of the new gallery is the mini Camden Yards, modeled after the day the Orioles won the American League Division Series in 1997. Students from the Maryland Institute of Art helped paint the more than 20,000 fans cheering in the stadium.

Other landmarks in the exhibit include the Inner Harbor, complete with a tall ship and paddleboats, and the Pimlico racetrack depicting the annual Preakness Stakes. Locals will recognize many of the buildings and landmarks along the tracks and marvel at the detail in the design.
The B&O Railroad Museum is a major destination during the holiday season. Visitors to the museum can see Santa, ride on the Reindeer Railway, visit Santa’s Village, and view the festive holiday train displays. This year, the museum is hosting live interactive performances of The Polar Express and a special breakfast with Santa event.
Admission to the museum is $25 for adults and $16 for children aged 2 to 12; tickets for breakfast with Santa and The Polar Express must be purchased separately.
