Context: Video aired on Oct. 3, 2024. TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – In 2024, the Topeka Land Bank made a total of $500. The City of Topeka purchased three properties in the Lauren’s Bay Neighborhood for a total of $42,060 in 2024. The city told 27 News it chose to not disclose bids beforehand to “avoid influencing other bidders.” Those properties were added to the city’s Land Bank website for sale. The cheapest property had a tax-appraised value of $420 and the most expensive had a tax-appraised value of $40,340. 27 News checked in with the city this week to see if any new properties had been added to the Land Bank and to see if any properties had sold recently. Director of Communications Dan Garrett said one Land Bank property sold in the last year. He said the property was added to the Land Bank through the city’s existing inventory of land, so there was no cost to acquire the parcel. Garrett said 1326 Southwest Fillmore Street sold for $500. That property was appraised in 2024 at $2,550. The city says the Land Bank’s mission is to efficiently acquire, manage and transform vacant, abandoned, blighted and/or foreclosed properties into productive use benefitting the community. The city’s Land Bank currently has nine parcels for sale ranging in price from $1,510 to $26,342. You can search properties for sale in Topeka through the Land Bank by clicking here .
