Most businesses will be allowed back to full capacity on May 21.

Mayor Muriel Bowser has some good news for residents and visitors to D.C.

In a Monday morning press briefing, the D.C. Mayor announced all restrictions would be lifted on all public and commercial activities on May 21. Bars, sports, and entertainment venues will have to wait a little longer, but will also be allowed to operate at 100% capacity after June 11.

The announcement means baseball fans will be allowed to attend games and the city's museums and attractions will soon be able to welcome tourists for the summer season.

The surprise announcement comes after case rates in the district are beginning to trend lower and more than 226,000 residents have been fully vaccinated. With just a few games remaining in the NHL season, Mayor Bowser said she will be granting a waiver of 25% to Capital One Arena so fans can attend playoff games.

D.C. government will also be returning to full-time operation in stages with all employees scheduled to return by July 12. Officials are still encouraging residents and people who work in the city to get vaccinated. The district now has 12 walk-up vaccination sites, including one at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

Soccer fans can get a vaccine at AUDI Field on Wednesday, May 12, from 4 to 8 p.m.

To encourage people to get out and enjoy the city, D.C. has partnered with the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington for the DC Shop, Eat, Play, Stay Giveaway. Prizes include gift certificates for a variety of restaurants, shops, hotels, and venues. Five grand prize winners will receive $25,000 to be used towards hosting a special event like a wedding, graduation, or birthday party. For more information and how to enter, visit ramw.org.
