The Denver Public Library (DPL) announced that its Central Library will be closed to the public from September 20 through November 3.
The library has been under construction since 2020. DPL said it needs six weeks of closure to prepare the building for its grand opening. Then, on Sunday, November 3, DPL will host a grand reopening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community celebration!
During the six-week closure, the curbside pick-up and holds window on 13 Avenue and phone, chat, and email services will be available.
While Central Library is closed, patrons can visit other locations across Denver. The closest branches to the Central branch are the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library and the Ross-Broadway Branch Library.
"After years of planning and construction, we are thrilled to once again fully open our doors to the public in November," said Michelle Jeske, librarian and executive director. "Central Library is a community hub in the heart of the city, and we cannot wait for the public to explore and discover the library once again."
The total cost of the Central Library renovation is $59.4 million; $43 million of the renovation is funded by the 2017 Elevate Denver Bond, and $5.75 million is funded via Strong Library, Strong Denver, supported by the DPL Fund.
