The Philadelphia 76ers won't know the status of their first-round pick until the lottery on May 12 as the pick is only top 6 protected. However, if the Sixers do end up keeping that pick, then there are going to be plenty of options for President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey and Co. to choose from.

It's time to look at some potential draft prospects. The Sixers will have plenty of talented players to choose from and add to their stockpile of young pieces. It's time to really break down the games of each of these prospects and see who best fits a Philadelphia team still focused on contending in the 2025-26 season if it can get some injury luck for once.

This series moves on to Maryland big man Derik Queen who would be a solid addition to any NBA team. He had a productive season for the Terrapins and will be looking to carry that into the league--possibly the Sixers .

Queen's 2024-25 stats

Strengths

Offensively, Queen is agile for a player so burly. He can put the ball on the floor by using his tight handle to be able to get to the basket with ease and he is strong enough to finish through any contact he gets from opposing defenders. He also has a high basketball IQ as he moves well without the basketball which leads to him getting easy baskets by finding the open seams in the defense. He is terrific in the post and when defenses send double teams, he uses his awareness and passing skills to make plays for others. He is a terrific offensive option and a ferocious rebounder.

Weaknesses

The jumper needs work. He shot 7-for-35 from deep during his freshman season at Maryland and he has a tendency of leaning on that jumper a little bit more than he should. When he is working in the post or from the nail (the area in the middle of the free-throw line), that is when he is at his best because he can use his dribble, physicality, and playmaking to make a difference. He also has limited athleticism which limits his upside a bit.

How can Queen fit and help the Sixers?

Coach Nick Nurse loves versatility. A guy like Queen who can play both forward spots and even play some center will delight Nurse who loves to experiment and put guys in different spots to see if they can succeed. Philadelphia struggled rebounding the ball in 2024-25--a side effect of all the injuries--and Queen would certainly help in that department along with providing more depth to a Sixers team in need of young talent.
