LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - Kansas center Hunter Dickinson has been named a First Team All-Big 12 selection for the second year in a row. Dickinson, who averaged 17.4 points and 9.9 rebounds per game, was one of 10 players selected to the All-Big 12 First Team by the conference’s coaches. The 7-foot-1 center from Alexandria, Virginia, becomes the 38th All-Big 12 First Team in the 29-year history of the league. Senior guard Zeke Mayo was named a All-Big 12 Third Team selection and was also named to the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team. The Lawrence, Kansas, native averaged 14.0 points per game and shot 40% from 3-point range after arriving at KU following three seasons at South Dakota State. Sixth-year guard Dajuan Harris Jr. was named an Honorable Mention all-league selection for the third straight season. Harris, a former Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, averaged 9.1 points and 5.7 assists per game this season. The Jayhawks were picked to finish in first place in the Big 12 entering the season and Dickinson was selected as the conference’s preseason player of the year. Instead of those preseason selections following suit in the postseason awards, Houston won the conference and Texas Tech sophomore forward JT Toppin was named Big 12 Player of the Year. Houston’s Kelvin Sampson was named the Big 12 Coach of the Year after leading the Cougars to a 19-1 record in league play. The Jayhawks, who went 20-11 in the regular season and 11-9 in Big 12 play, open Big 12 Tournament action Wednesday night at 8:30 p.m. CT against either Utah or UCF.
