Enjoy bird-watching at coastal enclaves of Maryland and Delaware.

"OktoBIRDfest," the Delmarva Birding Weekend's fall event, is flying through the region for a second year. From October 9 to 11, birders of all stripes can witness breathtaking bird species in the Delmarva Peninsula's lush landscapes, and cap off the experience with local craft beer.

According to one of the organizers, Dave Wilson, fall is one of the best times of the year to bird-watch—Over 400 species inhabit the region, and it's right before they migrate south, so visitors can see them in all their glory. If you've never bird-watched before, no worries—all skill levels are welcome!

The region is chock-full of beautiful vegetation and bird species, from little blue herons to egrets. Visitors can scout out seabirds at Ocean City's Inlet, or hike along The Landings at Maryland's Chincoteague Bay for glimpses of fall warblers and ducks. For the adventurous at heart, a kayaking trip is planned for Ayres Creek to see the herons, waterfowl, and Seaside Sparrows!

If there's anything the region is known for besides birds, it's also craft beer, and guests can grab a pint from local breweries from Dogfish Head, Revelation Brewing, Fordham & Dominion, and more after their trip. This section of the weekend is self-guided, so guests can do so if they wish.

Of course, some adjustments have been made due to COVID-19, so make sure you plan ahead and be cautious. Among them are wearing face masks and maintaining a distance of six feet when possible from other people. Hand sanitizer will also be provided.

Here are a few notes to keep in mind for the weekend:

• Be prepared for the weather! Activities will be held rain or shine, so make sure to bring a coat, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, etc.
• Show up on time, or before the scheduled time to your meeting place; it never hurts to be early!
• No restrooms will be on the premises.
• Guests are responsible for transporation; carpooling is prohibited.
• Be sure to bring a tip for the First Mate if you're riding a boat—about $5-$10.
