University of Maryland's agreement with new MBKB coach Buzz Williams is 6-year deal that starts with annual pay of $4.8 million and is set to increase by $100,000 annually, MOU newly obtained from Maryland shows. When April hit, the news that longtime Texas A&M basketball head coach Buzz Williams would be departing the program to take over the Maryland Terrapins after Kevin Willard left for Villanova, which had been reportedly in the works just hours after the Terrapins fell to eventual champion Florida in the Sweet 16 during the 2025 NCAA Tournament. After six seasons in College Station, Williams was beloved, for the most part by the Aggie fan base, helping lead Texas A&M to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, but never made it past the second round despite having all-time leading scorer and All-SEC guard Wade Taylor IV on the roster for four seasons, combined with forward Henry Coleman and Andersson Garcia, who all set program records. Still, the lack of consistent offense, especially the program's 3-point shooting issues always came to collect once March rolled around, especially after his entire roster outside of forwards Pharrel Payne, Solomon Washington, and Chris McDermott were the only players left on the roster going into the 2025 offseason. As soon as Williams' surprising decision hit the news cycle, his successor was all Aggie fans cared about, and credit to AD Trev Alberts for going the younger, offensive route with new head coach Bucky McMillan, who, after leading Samford to 99 wins and the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2000 last year, he has already gained eight commitments from the transfer portal, including former five-star Indiana forward Mackenzie Mgbacko. Texas A&M's basketball future is extremely bright under McMillan and his impressive staff leadership, while Williams should match the success he had in College Station with Maryland. With that comes a healthy coaching contract. According to USA TODAY's Steve Berkowitz, Williams has agreed to a six-year contract with an annual salary of $4.8 million and is expected to increase $100,000 annually. Texas A&M and Buzz Williams didn't leave on negative terms, but I can safely say that Aggie fans will be completely focused on what Bucky McMillan can accomplish compared to watching Williams in the Big Ten.
