Alexandria 15A and 15B teams qualify for state tournament

ALEXANDRIA — The Alexandria Area Hockey Association has qualified two girls hockey teams for state hockey tournaments, the 15A and 15B teams.

The Alexandria 15B team is set to compete in the state tournament starting at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 14, in Albertville, while the Alexandria 15A team is set to compete at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 14, in South St. Paul.

“To see both teams qualify for state is a tremendous accomplishment and speaks to the commitment of the players and coaches,” AAHA hockey director Cory Oberg said in a press release. “They have put in countless hours, not just on the ice, but off it, working together and pushing each other to be their very best. This is a proud moment for our program, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the progress we've made.”

The Alexandria 15A team qualified for the 2025 Minnesota Hockey 15U A State Tournament by winning the 15A Olympic bracket in Proctor on Sunday, March 2.

Alexandria 15A began the Olympic region tournament with a 7-2 win over Edina White on Feb. 28, then beat Grand Rapids/Greenway 2-0 on March 1. Alexandria 15A secured the regional title and a trip to the state tournament with a 2-1 win over Duluth on March 2.

The Alexandria 15B team qualified for the 2025 Minnesota Hockey 15U B State Tournament by placing second in the 2025 Minnesota Hockey 15U B West Region Tournament in Alexandria on Feb. 28-March 2, 2025.

Alexandria 15B beat Central Minnesota White 5-0 on Feb. 28 to start the tournament, then beat Anoka/Rogers 4-2 on March 1 to advance to the regional first place game. Central Minnesota Black defeated Alexandria 15B 6-3 on March 2, but Alexandria 15B team had another chance to advance to the state tournament if it could beat Anoka/Rogers once again on the afternoon of March 2. Alexandria 15B beat Anoka-Rogers 5-1 on March 2 to advance to the state tournament.

The Alexandria 15B team begins the state tournament with a battle against Thief River Falls at 4 p.m. on March 14. The Alexandria 15A team begins its state tournament with a tilt against Buffalo at 4 p.m. on March 14 in Albertville. Both state tournaments are 8-team double elimination tournaments that run from March 14-16.
