Festive Family will test their holiday spirit in an all-out, extreme Christmas light competition.
Greeley will represent Colorado on the national stage thanks to the Medhurst family, which appropriately calls itself the "Greeley Grizwalds." The Medhursts have long been thought to put on a holiday light show to beat all lights shows for the last 16 years, and now they have the chance to prove it.
"The Great Christmas Light Fight showcases the wildest and most spectacular Christmas displays in America. In each one-hour episode, four families from all around the country decorate their homes to the extreme in the hopes of winning the coveted Light Fight trophy and a $50,000 prize, with a total of $300,000 given away for the season," says the show's website.
According to the Greeley Tribune, the show is in its sixth season, and each episode features four families who decorate their home in hopes of winning the Light Fight trophy and a $50,000 grand prize. "The Medhursts will be competing against displays in Alabama, Arizona, and California. The show filmed in Greeley last holiday season."
The Greeley Grizwald display features 135,000 holiday lights, Santa and his workshop, a giant glowing Christmas Tree, and more. The lights dance to synchronized Christmas tunes. Mike Medhurst starts putting the whole thing together in October, and it took 300 man hours to get it up and running. Thousands of visitor flock to the show each year which makes the triple-sized electricity bill for the family worth it.
If you can't visit this amazing light show, tune your televisions to The Great Christmas Light Fight on Dec. 17 on ABC to get a glimpse of the beloved display.
If you can visit the home, it's more than worth the trip! Simply head over to 354 50th Avenue Court from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 5:30 p.m-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The lights sync to music every 30 minutes.
