This marks as the first time in two years the Easter Egg Roll will be held!
The White House has just announced plans for the annual Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn on Monday, April 18. A lottery for tickets is currently open.
Due to its popularity, the White House is holding a lottery to make the ticket distribution fair. Each winner can take up to two adults and four children from their household.
The online ticket lottery begins on Friday, March 25, and runs through Thursday, March 31. Winners will be notified by email on April 7.
You don’t have to live in the D.C. area but must be willing to travel to the White House. To enter, head over to recreation.gov and create an account. Once your account is created, you can put your name in for the Easter Egg Roll lottery.
Ahead of the Easter event, the White House will be opening the South Gardens for the annual Spring Garden Tours. The free tours will be held on Saturday, April 9, and Sunday, April 10, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tickets are required and will be distributed each day beginning at 8:30 a.m. at a tent near the Ellipse Visitors Pavilion.
Dating back to the 1850s, the Easter Egg Roll was an annual event that took place informally on the grounds of the Capitol. In 1878, President Rutherford B. Hayes moved it to the White House when it became a formal event.
The modern-day Easter Egg Roll is hosted by the First Lady and includes, activities, treats, and a visit from the Easter Bunny. Children are given a special commemorative wood egg designed by the first family.
