Its 3-point shooting has defined Indiana women's basketball , and a line of great perimeter shooters has come through but, when it's all said and done, Yarden Garzon may finish as the program's best 3-point shooter. Garzon broke the program's record for career 3-pointers made Sunday against Purdue with a left-corner 3 with 9 minutes, 35 seconds left in regulation, her second of the game. She moved past Kris McGrade, who made 206 3s from 1991 to 1994. But she did so making 34.2% of her attempts, needing far more shots than Garzon, who passed Tyra Buss (203 3-pointers, 31.4% in 135 games) in Thursday's loss to Maryland . Garzon, a 6-foot-3 junior from Israel, has distance in efficiency between her and Sara Scalia, who made 39.1% of her 3-point attempts (156 of 395) from 2022 to 2024. Garzon has made 42.5% of her 3-point attempts, entering Sunday's game, taking at least 147 in her three seasons. Though, the 2024-25 season is by far her least efficient (40.1%). What helps Garzon create space is her ability to cut off the ball, come off screens and be a threat to score from anywhere on the floor. Her height advantage makes her a mismatch for quicker guards or wings defending her, as she can shoot over them, or use her quickness against forwards to drive, often putting defenses in a bind. And Garzon still has the postseason and her senior year wearing crimson to distance herself further and solidify herself among the program's greats. But shooting isn't all she does. She averaged 12.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game through 92 career games. Of course, the evolution of basketball and its focus on analytics has changed how players trained. Indiana coach Teri Moren has her teams utilize the 3-point shot and, in her 11 seasons, has three players she coached in the program's top 10 of 3-pointers made.
