After two days of free agency frenzy around the league, teams are officially clearing the way for new acquisitions to sign their new deals this week. To accommodate their free agent agreements, the Kansas City Chiefs freed up over $49 million in salary cap space for the 2025 season by restructuring two-time league MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes and All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones' contracts on Wednesday. Mahomes and Jones sacrifice for the team's financial well-being and to keep them in competition for more Super Bowl appearances in the immediate future. The extra money and salary cap space will be spread out to left tackle Jaylon Moore, running back Elijah Mitchell, and defensive back Kristian Fulton after they agreed to deals with Kansas City this week. Every NFL team must comply with the $279.2 million salary cap by today (Wednesday) at 4 p.m. ET. Chiefs general manager Brett Veach will have more flexibility to make other deals as the team continues through free agency and next month's NFL Draft.
