The Kansas City Council has voted to transfer animal control services from KC Pet Project to the Neighborhood Services Department.

KC Pet Project oversaw animal control services since Sept. 1, 2020.

With the vote passing, responsibility for these services will shift to the Neighborhood Services Department by the end of the year.

KC Pet Project argues that returning control to the city is an expensive step backward.

The City Council introduced the ordinance last week, and it was sponsored by the city manager’s office.

KC Pet Project's contract with the city was set to expire on April 30, 2025.
