Bags featuring “Cracker Jill” will be available at ballpark concession stands this season.
The 2022 Major League Baseball season starts this month, and one of the sport’s favorite snacks is getting a new face. Frito Lay is revamping its 125-year-old ball favorite, Cracker Jack, by giving a nod to the women who have broken down barriers in sports.
This season, the bags of caramel popcorn will feature images of "Cracker Jill." Five different versions of the bags will be available at ballparks around the country and Ms. Jill is expected to join Sailor Jack as a permanent member of the Cracker Jack team.
The bags are part of a larger push to support women in sports and Frito Lay will be giving $200,000 to the Woman’s Sports Foundation to further that goal. The foundation is a non-profit that supports community sports programming in order to help women and girls reach their goals.
"Our Foundation is an ally, advocate and catalyst to help unlock the possibilities in every girl and woman through the power of sport," said Danette Leighton, WSF CEO. "Representation matters - it encourages and inspires the next generation. It's wonderful to see Cracker Jill come to life, emphasizing the power that representation can have by celebrating women who've broken barriers."
If you can’t make it to a ballpark this season, you can get your own "Cracker Jill" bag by making a donation of $5 or more to the Women’s Sports Foundation.
Cracker Jack has a long history with America’s favorite pastime. The caramel popcorn and peanut snack is even featured in "Take Me Out to the Ball Game," a song played during the 7th inning stretch at ballparks across North America. Frito Lay has enlisted American artist Normani to sing a new version of the song:
