No-appointment vaccines are now available at the Eastern Shore Vaccine Center.
All Maryland residents over age 16 are now eligible to pre-register for a vaccine at mass vaccination sites. The surprise announcement was made by Governor Larry Hogan at a press conference on April 1, 2021. The Governor also announced seven new mass vaccination sites and the implementation of walk-up vaccines at the site in Salisbury. All residents over the age of 16 will be eligible to receive a vaccine beginning on April 26, 2021. Health officials are encouraging everyone to pre-register to get ready for the flood of appointments expected later this month.
Maryland has already pre-registered 300,000 people this month for mass vaccination sites and more than 75 percent of residents over age 65 have been vaccinated.
“As a result of the robust infrastructure that we have built, our rapidly accelerating vaccination rate, and finally that critical increase in vaccine supply, we will likely be able to make announcements in the days ahead regarding further acceleration of vaccine eligibility phases,” said Governor Hogan. “In preparation for that, effective today, we are immediately opening pre-registration to Phase 3. Every single Marylander who wants a COVID-19 vaccine can now pre-register for an appointment at a mass vaccination site.”

Eligible Marylanders still have the ability to get vaccines at drugstores, providers, and local health departments. Seven new mass vaccination sites will open in April including one at the Greenbelt Metro station. The new sites will open on or around these dates:
- April 1 - Montgomery College, Germantown
- April 7 - Maryland State Fairgrounds, Greenbelt Metro Station
- April 12 - Frederick Community College, Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium
- April 19 - Ripken Stadium in Harford County
- April 26 - The Mall in Columbia
The vaccination site at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center in Salisbury is now offering walk-up vaccines without an appointment during regular business hours. Officials hope to add more no-appointment lines at state vaccination sites in the future. To pre-register for a vaccine, go to covidvax.maryland.gov or call 1-855-MD-GOVAX (1-855-634-6829) for assistance in making an appointment.
