Donald Trump has not endorsed Terry Cronin for a seat in the Florida House, despite a political ad that suggests just that. A recent ad by the Make America Great Again political committee endorsed Cronin for the Florida House District 32 seat, implying that Trump had done so as well. The ad came from a political consulting firm in Venice, Florida, called Make America Great Again PC, which is not connected with Trump. It reads “Make America Great Again PC endorses Trump Republican Terry Cronin” overlaid over pictures or Trump and Cronin against a background of an American flag. A disclaimer in small type at the bottom of the ad notes that it is paid for by the political committee. When asked about the ad, Cronin simply rattled off a list of endorsements he has received: "I’ll take any endorsements I can get from those that agree with my America First campaign." The Brevard Republican Executive Committee took to social media to alert voters about the ad. "Alert! Brevard voters beware, those campaign mailers in your mailbox may not be factually accurate and/or intentionally misleading," the committee posted on X. "The artwork and inferred endorsements and relationships could be misleading. Please research the candidates before you cast your vote." In August, the same PAC sent a "Voter Guide" campaign mailer that some say incorrectly implied that the listed candidates all had Trump's endorsement. The "Voter Guide" mailer in August had photos of Trump and DeSantis and said, "Make America Great Again PC is proud to have endorsed." It then listed candidates, most of whom were on the Aug. 20 primary ballot in Brevard . Cronin is running in the April 1 GOP primary against Brian Hodgers and Bob White, to see who will face Democrat Juan Hinojosa in a June 10 special election. Gov. Ron DeSantis scheduled a special election to fill the Florida House District 32 seat that will become vacant with the upcoming resignation of incumbent Republican Debbie Mayfield of Indialantic. The April 1 primary is only open to registered Republicans. District 32 includes parts of Central and South Brevard: Rockledge, Viera, Suntree, Melbourne, Indian Harbour Beach and Indialantic. The term for the seat is two years, and the salary is $29,697 a year. Jim Waymer is FLORIDA TODAY'S environment reporter. Contact him at (321) 261-5903 or [email protected].
