According to the Lakewood Police Department, a puppy in Lakewood was rescued on Friday after being left in a car with an interior temperature of nearly 120 degrees.

The rescue occurred near Colorado Mills Mall around 12:45 p.m. after a citizen had notified the police. Police and Animal Control broke the window of the hot car to save the puppy, which was estimated to have been left in the car for about an hour.

The puppy was examined, and determined that it did not need medical attention.

Police say the owner was cited for animal neglect.

This is a caution to all dog owners: do not leave your dog in the car when you are not there.
