Pay attention if you're traveling to/from Reagan National any time soon.

Changes are coming to the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) complex this month. Airport officials are renaming gates, parking lots, and roadways throughout the airport. Changes will begin on Saturday, June 4.

Terminals and gates will be renamed to align with the same terms used at airports around the U.S. and to make it easier to navigate for travelers. Replacing the signage is part of a $1-billion project at Reagan National that added a new concourse and two security screening areas.

The main changes include renaming Terminals A and B/C to Terminals 1 and 2 and making the gates alphabetical instead of numerical. Gates will also have a letter added to the name and parking lots will be numerical going forward.

"We believe these sign enhancements will assist travelers moving through the terminals," said Vice President and Reagan National Airport Manager Paul Malandrino. "With new facilities constructed as part of Project Journey, updating the signs airport-wide became the next logical step to help passengers navigate the airport. Our team has worked hard to prepare for the conversion of over 1,000 signs."

Airlines will begin using the new gate numbers on boarding passes and airport monitors will display the new gate numbers starting on June 5.

Road signs and parking signage will be changed during the week of June 6, so travelers are encouraged to allow for extra time and use airline names for guidance.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is also working to improve travel at Dulles International Airport in Loudon County. The Airport Authority has proposed a new 14-gate concourse that would replace gates built in the 1990s that has outdoor boarding areas. The concourse is still in the development stage and the Airport Authority is working with United Airlines to secure funding.
