Every vegan is screaming right now! Pita Pal Foods, LP is voluntarily recalling several hummus products due to a listeria scare that may have potentially contaminated the hummus. The listeria was found in the facility but not in the finished product, so the hummus is being recalled out of precaution.
The products were shipped and distributed to several retailers in Virginia and North Carolina, including Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Lidl, Kroger, Fresh Market, and Target. If you have purchased hummus from one of these stores within the last few weeks, please discard of it properly.
The recalled products were made between May 10, 2019, and June 25, 2019, and the brands include Bucee's, Fresh Thyme, Harris Teeter, Hummus Hummus, Lantana, Lidl, Pita Pal, Reasor's, Roundy's, Schnucks, and 7 Select. See the full list of products here.

Sorry to everyone who was planning a party around the perfect summer snack; you are urged to discard of the product or return it to your original store of purchase! There have been no reported illnesses, but the company is issuing a recall out of an abundance of caution.
According to the FDA's website, "Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women."
