Spirit Airlines is set to expand its network this summer with new nonstop services from Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Columbia, South Carolina, marking the airline's continued growth in the Southeastern US. The airline announced on Wednesday that, starting in June 2025, it will offer direct flights to several major East Coast destinations, providing both convenience and value for travelers.

Chattanooga Airport: New routes alert!

Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport (CHA) will soon be connected to three key destinations: Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), and Orlando International Airport (MCO), the airline said in a press release . Spirit Airlines will begin offering nonstop flights to these cities starting June 4, 2025, with the introduction of service to Newark and Orlando, and June 5, 2025, to Fort Lauderdale.

These new routes will be the only nonstop services between Chattanooga and these cities, offering travelers convenient and affordable travel options. The flights are not yet available on the carrier's booking platform. The introductory fares are available for booking through March 20, 2025, for travel between June 4 and August 12, 2025, the airline said.

Spirit Airlines has always been a carrier that looks to turn heads, and the liveries are no different.

New service at Columbia Airport

Columbia, South Carolina, will also benefit from Spirit's expanded footprint. The airline will begin offering nonstop flights to Fort Lauderdale, Newark, and Orlando starting on June 5, 2025, according to the press release . Columbia's new routes are a significant step forward for Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE), which will see its first nonstop flights to Newark, while also boosting connections to two popular Florida cities.

" Securing three nonstop routes on Spirit Airlines is a significant accomplishment for the airport and likewise a big win for this entire community and region ," said Gregg Hornsby, Interim President & CEO and CFO at Columbia Metropolitan Airport. " We're excited to welcome the Spirit team to the airport and look forward to seeing travelers in the coming months taking advantage of these fantastic air service opportunities ."

The airline’s introduction of four distinct fare options gives passengers the flexibility to choose their preferred travel experience, whether they opt for the most economical ticket or the premium Go Big option, with perks like larger seats, carry-on and check-bag allowance, and fees waived for change or cancellation.

Difficult 2024 for Spirit Airlines

Last year was indeed tough for Spirit Airlines.

The carrier's financial struggles deepened in 2024 as the low-cost carrier faced significant challenges, including rising unit costs and the impact of a fleet-wide issue with its engines. The airline's annual losses more than doubled, growing from $558.5 million in 2023 to around $1.2 billion in 2024 .

The carrier will go it alone and expects its reorganization plan to be done this year.

Spirit Airlines is set to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in the coming weeks after a US bankruptcy court confirmed its reorganization plan. As part of the exit, the airline will transition to a take-private deal, giving control of the company to its major bondholders.
