With all the noise from the #chickensandwichwar between Chick-fil-A and Popeyes, there is an unsung hero, KFC. They have chosen to test a new "chicken" meat substitute, dubbed "Beyond Fried Chicken," which comes in three boneless variations: wings, nuggets, and breasts (*grabs BBQ sauce*).
The chicken is not in fact, chicken, but instead, is a meat substitute made of plant-based proteins that mimic the finger-lickin' good chicken! Since kicking meat to the curb has been the latest and greatest food trend, KFC is thinking towards the future and might be the true champion of the chicken sandwich war.
I mean, just look at it! I can't tell the difference!

Sadly, however, the "chicken" was only being sold in Atlanta for one day and to our surprise, it sold out within five hours of the store opening (WHAT)! KFC stated that the sales for the Beyond Fried Chicken amassed to the amount of popcorn chicken that they usually sell within a week! Holy moly!
What's even more flabbergasting was the line of people waiting to get into the restaurant—it went outside of the building and down the street, leaving people waiting in line for several hours!
We hope to see other fast-food restaurants picking up on this trend. Just think—Taco Bell (all the possibilities), meatless nuggets from Chick-fil-A, and a "Beyond" Dave's Single at Wendy's ... All great options, we might add!
We are, however, sad to tell you that KFC has not stated if they intend to roll out their meatless "chicken" nationwide. Cross your fingers that the success of their trial tells KFC to put it in stores everywhere!! We need to get our fingers on some finger-lickin' good "chicken" wings!
