WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — With temperatures in the 60s and 70s, you may be considering watering your lawn. But if you use Wichita water, the city reminds you that drought restrictions are still in place. “It may feel like spring outside already, but we are still in stage 2 of the drought!” the City of Wichita posted on social media . Last September, the city said Stage 2 would continue until levels at Cheney Lake start to go back up. The city uses Cheney’s 12-month average to determine the drought stage. The Cheney Lake conservation pool is 58.99% full- 7.55 feet below normal. Under Stage 2, all outdoor non-crucial watering is restricted to once a week, depending on where a resident lives. People northwest of Central and Broadway can water on Mondays, northeast on Tuesdays, southwest on Wednesdays, and southeast on Thursdays. Watering is limited to before 10 a.m. and after 8 p.m. The watering restrictions apply to commercial users and Wichita’s wholesale customers. Andover should use Central as a divider. North Andover would water on Tuesdays and south Andover on Thursdays. Maize residents using City of Wichita water would water on Mondays. People who use well water are exempt from the restrictions but are encouraged to conserve as much as possible.
