Vail, Colorado, is leading the charge nationwide to keep people safe in town-owned buildings. Vail is the very first municipality to install Synexis biodefence systems inside city buildings to help keep people safe from germs and viruses, like the novel coronavirus.
Town leaders, including town manager Scott Robson, care a lot about the health and safety of people who live in town as well as the many visitors Vail sees every year. The Synexis biodefense system, which works to kill microbes in the air as well as on surfaces, will be placed in all the municipal buildings and on all 35 buses operated by the city.

“We felt like this was a critical time to take an additional and innovative approach to add another layer to our cleaning protocols on behalf of our employees, locals, and visitors who utilize our public facilities,” Robson said. “Being the first municipality in the U.S. to implement Synexis’ biodefense technology is emblematic to Vail’s commitment to high standards and the guest experience that’s expected of a premier international mountain resort community.”
To clarify, the Synexis technology is not an air filter or scrubber, as those need constant airflow to pass through in order to be effective and work. Instead, Synexis works in an occupied space, with no mist or spray, and continuously reduces the microbial load in the air and on surfaces.

Vail has also set up mask mandatory zones around town where people are known to gather. Vail town leaders will implement more safety measures as the ski season gets moving, with the goal of keeping everyone safe while allowing people to enjoy the town and ski season. When used with Vail’s increased cleaning methods the filters will greatly reduce the overall microbial load in public buildings and buses, according to Robson.
