There are kittens up for adoption this week! 

With warm (but not-too-hot!) weather, May seems like the perfect month to adopt a new best friend! We've compiled a list of the cutest pets available in Hampton Roads.

Hope for Life Rescue, Inc. | Virginia Beach

Hope for Life Rescue, Inc., is an amazing nonprofit shelter located at 610 Jack Rabbit Rd, Ste 3., in Virginia Beach. When you get there, you'll find them in the third building to the left – by the big yellow truck! See their available animals on their Facebook page!

Blossom, 6

Blossom, true to her name, is a courageous and sweet girl who has had a hard life. Both heartworm positive and anemic, she gave birth to a litter of puppies who tragically did not make it. Calm overall, Blossom does not have as much stamina as a typical hound, but she is very sweet. When you enter the room, she will walk right up to you and ask for pets. I tried a few of the common tricks like sit and shake and she did not respond, so she will need some training. Blossom is 50/50 with dogs so she will need to be introduced properly to other pets and would do best in a home without any cats. Find her here!

Norman, 2

Norman, Norman, Norman ... where do I begin? He is sweet, but he has got a feisty side! When I turned around to look at another cat, he slapped my back so he could get more attention (yes, that actually happened!). Norman has a jealous side and a personality that you just cannot miss. Though comfortable with the other cats, he asks that he be the only man in your life. Norman will be the sunshine on a gloomy day and will keep you entertained for hours! Find him here!

Virginia Beach SPCA (VBSPCA)

The Virginia Beach SPCA is one of the local government-run shelters in the Hampton Roads area and can be found at 3040 Holland Rd., in Virginia Beach. Check them out on their website, Facebook, and Instagram!

Blaze, 6

Blaze is a gorgeous black Labrador retriever mix who is as enthusiastic as can be and always has a big smile on his face. Like a typical lab, he is hyperactive and requires constant movement – daily walks are a must! Blaze doesn't realize his size, so a home with older children is recommended. Check him out here!

Julian, 10

Jillian is a wise old man who has a sassy attitude and fierce side-eye when he is unimpressed by something. Don't let his attitude fool you; he is very sweet and affectionate and sure loves his snuggles. Find him here!

Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center

Chelsea, 5-8

Chelsea will be the light of your life with her happy personality and high energy. She is an older gal, but her foster mom says that she pulls on the leash, runs around the house and beach, and loves to play with her toys. Chelsea is an intelligent pup – she knows how to sit, stay, and shake! Meet her here!

Guinevere, 1-3

Guinevere is a shy tabby cat with a beautiful coat similar to sterling silver. She was too shy to come out of her cage for photos but is generally very social with humans only. Guinevere needs to be the only animal in your home. Check her out here!

Chesapeake Animal Services

Kittens! There are kittens up for adoption! These six little guys are all boys, except for one girl (the all-black one). Since they are still in the juvenile stage, you can raise them to behave the way that you wish them to. Kittens are very easy to care for and will be your joy when you're having a bad day. Norfolk SPCA

The Norfolk SPCA is the local shelter to the Norfolk area and can be found at 916 Ballentine Boulevard, in Norfolk – check them out on their website and Facebook!

Snowball, 1

This pupper is a young beagle mix who will be the best dog you could ask for. She is a little shy in the loud shelter but opens up and becomes playful and goofy once she is outside with open space. She will need a family that can break her out of her shell. Snowball would do well with other animals and with older kids. 

Vinny, 10 and Butters, 5

Both boys are a bonded pair, so they will need to be adopted together. Each cat is the opposite of the other: Butters is the quiet one of the pair and can be timid, while Vinny is outgoing and chatty. But both are affectionate and love human interaction. Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter | Newport News

The Peninsula SPCA is more than just an adoption shelter; they're a petting zoo, too. Popular to the locals, you can find them at 5843 Jefferson Ave., in Newport News -- check them out on Facebook, Instagram, and their website! The shelter performs a behavioral test on each animal while they are at the shelter so they can provide a thorough description. 

Lady, 6

Lady is a boxer mix who is full of energy and silly tricks to keep you occupied! She does have anxiety, though, so she will require help to manage it. Lady loves her belly rubs, as well as going for walks. Check her out here!

Tchalla, 11

Tchalla will be the black panther to protect your home! This sweet boy has yellow eyes that are hard to miss. Don't be alarmed by his age; he's ready to go and has a long life ahead of him. He appears to be on the quieter side, so be sure to provide him all the snuggles he asks for. Find him here!
